The English School was started in 1997 by a small group of parents who were committed to the provision of a high quality bilingual education based on the British model. The school was initially supported and guided by The British Council, the British government’s worldwide cultural organisation and has now become a well-established British School in Spain, belonging to NABSS. It has grown rapidly since its inception and now has a roll of 690 pupils. The school caters for children aged 3-18 with a three-form entry for most year groups (from Nursery to Year 4, following an expansion from 2 to 3 form entry in September 2011, when the new Nursery wing was opened) and a limit of 24 children per class.

Following the steady growth of The English School of Asturias, a new Secondary wing was opened in September 2016 to meet the needs of an extended Secondary and Sixth Form department. The new wing includes a Sixth Form area, with private study space, media centre, as well as seven new classrooms and a new sports hall with tiered seating. The main building has also developed a Primary art workshop as well as currently working on a Primary vegetable and flower garden in the Infant playground.
